Advisory Committee
Our advisory committee consists of ten members, headed by Shozo A. Kurokawa, principal Consultant and Translator.

Shozo A. Kurokawa
Principal Consultant & Translator
B.A. in English, Waseda University in Tokyo; M.A. in Linguistics, the University of Hawaii at Manoa; formerly taught at the University of Maryland. Far East Division in Tokyo, the University of Hawaii, Keio University, Seiwa College, and Himeji Dokkyo University in Japan. Early retired from the University of Hawaii (Assistant Professor), and presently Professor Emeritus of Himeji Dokkyo University.

The English of the Japanese as seen from the U.S. (in Japanese), The Japan Times, 1978, Americans of Japanese Ancestry in America (in Japanese), Kyoikusha, 1979, Typical Mistakes in Japanese-American Communication, Kinseido, 1978, Preparation for Taking the TOEFL: Basic Knowledge; Listening Comprehension and Vocabulary (three separate books), coauthored, Kenkyusha, 2000; English for Social Occasions, coauthored, Sogensha, 2003, Listening Comprehension in English: University Text Series, Books I and II, coauthored, Nanundo, 2003, and many other articles, papers, books and college textbooks.

Translation and Consulting Experience

Major translation and consulting experiences include the following:

1. Translation

  • Maui Charter, State of Hawaii, translated into Japanese with Dr. James Araki, Professor of Japanese Literature, University of Hawaii.
  • The Spirit of Tea (authored by Sen Soshitsu XV), translated into English with Dr. Paul Varley, Professor of Japanese History, Columbia University and University of Hawaii.
  • Genealogy of Mr. Tsuneichi Yamamoto, formerly President of Hawaii Hochi, Japanese newspaper in Honolulu, Hawaii.

2. Consultation

  • Aisin Seiki, a subsidiary transmission manufacturer of Toyota Motors, and BorgWarner, Inc. in Chicago, hired as a consultant by BorgWarner, Inc. for two separate negotiations, on Oahu (Honolulu) and Hawaii (Kona).
  • Samsonite Company and Ace Luggage Company in Japan, hired as a consultant by Samsonite Company for negotiations held in Honolulu.
